Troubleshooting

Discord Thread Archived? Agent Not Replying?

If your bot suddenly goes silent in a thread but works elsewhere, the thread may be archived or locked.

This looks like a bot outage, but it’s usually a thread-state issue. Discord can auto-archive inactive threads, and archived/locked threads often block normal bot replies.

Reality check: DM success does not prove server-thread posting is healthy. Always test in a fresh non-archived channel/thread.

Fast diagnosis (90 seconds)

  1. Check if the thread shows Archived or Locked.
  2. Send a tiny test in a regular channel: “Reply with one word: pong.”
  3. If channel reply works but old thread fails, this is a thread-state problem (not model quality).

Known-good recovery flow

  1. Unarchive the thread (and unlock if needed).
  2. Retest with a tiny mention in that same thread.
  3. If still silent, create a brand-new thread and run the same tiny test.
  4. Confirm bot has permission to send messages in threads for that channel/category.

Copy/paste recovery prompt

We’re troubleshooting Discord thread silence. 1) Reply in this current location with exactly: THREAD-OK 2) If you cannot post here, say exactly why (permission, archived thread, locked thread, or policy block). 3) Then post the same one-line test in a fresh non-archived thread and report result.

Avoid this trap: repeatedly retrying in the same archived thread creates false "agent is broken" loops. Move to a fresh thread immediately to isolate.

Bottom line: if fresh channels work and old thread doesn’t, fix thread state/permissions first. Don’t debug models until thread health is proven.
