Discord Thread Archived? Agent Not Replying?
If your bot suddenly goes silent in a thread but works elsewhere, the thread may be archived or locked.
This looks like a bot outage, but it’s usually a thread-state issue. Discord can auto-archive inactive threads, and archived/locked threads often block normal bot replies.
Reality check: DM success does not prove server-thread posting is healthy. Always test in a fresh non-archived channel/thread.
Fast diagnosis (90 seconds)
- Check if the thread shows Archived or Locked.
- Send a tiny test in a regular channel: “Reply with one word: pong.”
- If channel reply works but old thread fails, this is a thread-state problem (not model quality).
Known-good recovery flow
- Unarchive the thread (and unlock if needed).
- Retest with a tiny mention in that same thread.
- If still silent, create a brand-new thread and run the same tiny test.
- Confirm bot has permission to send messages in threads for that channel/category.

3) Then post the same one-line test in a fresh non-archived thread and report result.
Avoid this trap: repeatedly retrying in the same archived thread creates false "agent is broken" loops. Move to a fresh thread immediately to isolate.
High-friction edge cases
- Auto-archive timer: low-activity threads can archive quickly and silently break your workflow.
- Thread vs channel permissions: bot can send in channel but not in threads under that channel.
- Forum post thread state: forum posts are thread-backed and may be locked/archived by moderation rules.
- Integration restrictions: server-level integration policies can override what appears to be normal permissions.
When to escalate to #help
- Bot fails in both fresh channel and fresh thread tests.
- You confirmed thread is unarchived/unlocked, but posting still fails.
- DM works, but every server location fails after permission review.
